About Us!

Thank you for visiting our page.  The idea and dream of creating The Quiet Enoteca blog was to share our thoughts on wine and learn from others. The journey each of us takes in life brings new thoughts and connections that enrich all of us as we share.  

Our jumping off point started back in 2016, on a trip to wine country in Northern California. Billie and Kevin stopped in to Ferrari Carano and spent a wonderful afternoon in the cellar tasting some great wines. While we were there, we noticed the title Enoteca over the wine bar.  We did not know what the word meant, but were very curious, Billie asked Tony, our wine steward of the day, what this meant. He explained that it is an Italian word for wine repository, or wine library, or "a place where wine is kept". Essentially, a place people gather to share wine and conversation. How could we not borrow a bit of heritage?

Over the next few years, we discovered the joy of journeying to the Willamette Valley, Washington, and of course back to Napa/Sonoma, plus one or two visits to our local vineyard just outside of Las Vegas in Pahrump Valley. We were confronted with the depth of stories in our conversations about what we tasted,  how the wine was made, compelling arguments for certain farming techniques, and the solid understanding that the wine world is massive and old. Like really old! Records show China fermenting wine as early as 7,000 BC, Iran 5,000 BC, and the Greeks around 4,500 BC. So yeah! like there is so much to learn.

The travel that we've taken has inspired Kevin to complete his CSW (certified specialist of wine) and his WSET Level 3, and is continuing on and in the midst of completing the WSET - Diploma.  Billie while, not in the formal education, has enhanced her tasting skills and knowledge of varietals.  With her comes an appreciation for high acid white wines, full bodied sparkling wines, and a love for a well aged red wine.  Yes, even a great dessert wine, if paired correctly.
